Independent coffee shops are popping up all over Markham, and the one with the biggest hype has to be Alchemy Coffee. Located in a strip plaza off Highway 7, it’s reputation brings customers in despite the sparse parking.
This photo is probably one of things that makes Platito stand out – who can scroll past purple chicken and waffles and not be intrigued? Once I saw this photo, my friends and I made many attempts to eat here but the timing wasn’t right. Several months later, we found ourselves walking to Platito on a rainy Sunday morning… only to find it closed. Online, and even the sign on the door indicated that they should be open at that time, so needless to say, we were rather disappointed.
A few weeks later, we made another attempt and called ahead to reserve a spot to make sure they would be open.
And they were!
My friend raved about a place on Main Street Markham called Inspire, calling it a fusion restaurant (the restaurant itself does describe itself as modern, fusion). I am generally skeptical regarding fusion foods cause generally is mediocre, and often a way to describe food that may have conflicting flavours.
This wasn’t the case here; Inspire actually reminds me of Banh Mi Boys, with a Asian spin on traditionally North American foods, but more restaurant-style than take-out counter. The items we tried were executed well, and is a welcome addition to the choices offered on Main Street.
