On our last day in Busan, the rain decided to greet us with a plentiful arrival. Our original plans for outdoor activities were scrapped, and we decided to take it easy and walk to a local juk place for lunch.

Spotlight: Subway & Street Food, pt. 2

Part 1 of my street food adventures took place over 3.5 years ago, and surprisingly, the only repeat I had this time was hotteok. Due to my odd schedule, the convenience store ended up being my best friend this time around, but I still enjoyed the odd street vendor (or, more often, subway vendor) fare.

Manjoo (만쥬)

I’ve had plenty of walnut cakes (호두과자) growing up, as my cousin worked at a bakery and her boss let her take the unsold ones home at the end of the day. Another Busan speciality is milmyeon. However, we didn’t really know that prior, and were just looking for a restaurant near Haeundae. After a morning walking around Haedong Yonggungsa, my friend chose milmyeon among the options I found, and we made our way down Gunam-ro.

After a whirlwind arrival in South Korea, I spent the entire evening traversing from one end to the other, and ended up in Busan just before 10pm. Due to the tight schedule and nonstop travelling, I was feeling under-the-weather and in the mood for some comforting food.

The next morning, I met up with a couple of friends who serendipitously happened to be in Busan for the next couple of days, and a suggestion of dwaeji gukbap (돼지국밥) was made.

Spotlight: Inkigayo Sandwich

IMG_20181010_091844-01.jpeg

My friend and I decided to visit a temple early on our second morning in Busan. On our way there, we stopped at a convenience store inside the subway station for a convenient breakfast. While grabbing kimbap from the fridge, my eyes wandered past the sandwiches… and spotted the Inkigayo Sandwich. Continue reading Spotlight: Inkigayo Sandwich
