Carl’s Jr.

A Carl’s Jr. popped up in the city, and I had absolutely no idea what it was. After a few brief reviews from my friends, I discovered two things: it was a fast food burger joint and I should give it a try.

Famous Star

This is the first and currently only Carl’s Jr. in Ontario, but they have several locations in B.C. and Alberta. Representatives handed out coupons on campus a couple of months ago, but after much flopping from my eating partners, we ended up not going and the coupons expired.

So of course, it only made sense to go about two weeks after that.

Mel’s Diner

Breakfast special

Mel’s Diner was a place I heard about from upper years in Waterloo as the place to go for all-day breakfast. Sadly, the diner (and the rest of the plaza) burned down in a fire a few months before I moved to the city. More about their story can be read here.

Spotlight: Williams Fresh Cafe Funky Monkey Waffle

Williams Fresh Cafe serves up breakfast, lunch/dinner and dessert at over 35 locations around Ontario, a few of which are conveniently located near university campuses. Coincidence? :)

When I first came to Waterloo, I heard from friends that Williams was a great place to hang out and grab some coffee and food. Though for a student budget, I would say many items are on the pricier end of the spectrum, it is definitely a great place for a treat once in awhile. My especial favourites are their dessert and drink options, and I often find myself here for their cakes and waffles.

Who can resist a good burger? How about burgers made to order and from local ingredients? That is the promise of Frat Burger in Waterloo, Ontario. Located down the road from two major universities, it feeds a lot of hungry students, myself included.
